We can't help but fall in love with 'Thaam Lo' from 'Parwaaz Hai Junoon'

The second track from much-anticipated air force drama Parwaaz Hai Junoon is out and well, we are in love with it.

Thaam Lo, sung by our very own Atif Aslam, has a beautiful, soft melody with stunning visuals. The song focuses on the relationship between Hamza Ali Abbasi, Hania Aamir and Shaz Khan and Kubra Khan.

Thaam Lo is penned by Shakeel Sohail and composed by Azaan Sami Khan.

While we see some strong chemistry between the two couples, (we’re totally shipping Hamza, Hania together), we also see Ahad Raza Mir possibly developing feelings for Hania, despite the taunting remarks he makes about her in the film’s first song Bhulleya.

Atif’s soothing voice complements the theme of the song and honestly, we can’t think of a better person to croon such romantic lyrics.

Parwaaz Hai Junoon is produced by Momina and Duraid Films and HUM Films in association with Pakistan Air force.

The film also stars Syed Shafaat Ali, Adnan Jaffer, Sikandar Vincent, Rachel Viccaji, Mustafa Changezi and Sabeena Syed. It features special appearances by Marina Khan, Asif Raza Mir, Hina Bayat, Shamoon Abbasi, Farhan Ali Agha and Rasheed Naz. It is slated to release on Eidul Azha.

Much-delayed Imran Khan biopic set for release

KARACHI: Kaptaan, a biopic on cricket legend Imran Khan, will finally release this year.

The movie has been in the works for over six years. A trailer of the film was first unveiled in 2013.

Saeeda Imtiaz and Abdul Mannan, who essay titular roles in the movie, spoke exclusively to The Express Tribune on this account. “The idea of Kaptaan came around in 2011. We conducted a workshop that year to translate the vision into a film. Filming commenced a year later,” Imtiaz, who plays the role of Khan’s first wife Jemima Goldsmith, said.

“The film was originally slated for a 2013 release, right before general elections. The release got stalled after Khan met an accident before the polls,” the Wajood actor added.

Imtiaz spoke about how she met the cricket legend in late 2013 after Kaptaan’s filming was complete. She also revealed that while Khan’s consent had been secured before work commenced, the film’s producers were not keen on executing the project after the 2013 accident.

Imtiaz said Goldsmith was mighty pleased with how she had been portrayed onscreen. “I had an email conversation with her in 2013. She said she had loved the way we’ve portrayed her in the film. Goldsmith was ecstatic on learning that I was playing her onscreen,” the starlet said. Imtiaz was also supposed to meet her in London but the meeting was cancelled due to protests.

Speaking of his role in the film, Mannan said he didn’t really know much about the PTI chairman’s life. “There was an uncanny physical resemblance but I knew I still had a long way to go. I had to emulate his mannerisms, gait, speech. I spent a day with him just to observe.”

Mannan added the film delved into hitherto untouched aspects of Khan’s life. “Around 60% (of the film) is premised on his personal relationships. Kaptaan will also shed light on his relationship with Goldsmith,” he said.

Imtiaz said the scope of the film was limited to the formative years of Khan’s political innings, the crises he surmounted and his marriage to Goldsmith. “The film is complete. All we need to do is hire a director to re-shoot and edit some sequences.” Mannan added how a part on former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was axed. While a release date is awaited, both actors appeared confident of the film finally seeing light of the day this year.

"Ours is an immature industry to release 4 films on same date," Javed Sheikh

This Eid-ul-fitr, four Pakistani films were released simultaneously including 7 Din Mohabbat In, Azaadi, Na Band Na Baraati and Javed Sheikh’s directorial Wajood. While the audiences and cinema houses might have been overjoyed with the prospect of multiple choices to watch and avenues for business respectively; it was the “injustice” Wajood received that made Javed Sheikh angry on distributors, producers and the government.

“Ours is an immature industry, otherwise, we would not have released four films on the same day,” said veteran actor Javed Sheikh while talking to a leading publication.

The actor claimed that his directorial return after a decade – he stopped directing movies after the failure of Asmaan ke Neechey at the Box Office – got nothing but injustice from the distributors who gave his film 110 shows on Eid day contrary to the 240 shows 7DMI which also features Javed Sheikh in a supporting role.

The actor compared the incident to that of release of Padman and Padmavat, where in order to give maximum business to both the movies the coinciding dates were adjusted. Whereas according to Javed Sheikh, regardless of his request to IMGC Global (distributors of Wajood) to shift the movie release to August, the movie was released on Eid and thus faced ”injustice” in terms of number of shows and exposure in the cinema.

Although the seasoned actor cum director have had simultaneous releases earlier as well, namely Bin Roye, Wrong No., Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and Hulla Gulla which all released around the same time. Javed Sheikh thinks of it as a coincidence – presumably because as an actor release dates do not really make a difference?

However with his upcoming film Teefa in Trouble, which is going to be a non-Eid release, Javed Sheikh believes that perception of Eid films being a box office hit will change amongst distributors.
