Celebrities distribute ration bags to the needy

The pandemic has affected us in different ways. While some of us are happy working from home, there are people out there who can’t afford to do the same, owing to the nature of work. Those who survive on a daily wage have gone into quarantine just like all of us, so how will they eat?

Amidst this lockdown situation nationwide, celebrities are distributing ration bags to the underprivileged who cannot otherwise put food on their tables. Feroze Khan was first to kick-start this trend, and others have started following. Feroze announced it on his Instagram story, asking people if they wished to contribute and do good for humanity. He wrote: Anyone wants to contribute in ration bags. It can be zakat also. I am getting ration bags made of basic necessities. Pls contact me if anyone is interested to contribute. He managed to get 100 ration bags across to the deserving families, which a great start. A job well done, Feroze!

The ‘Teefa in Trouble’ actress Maya Ali also jumped onto the bandwagon and had ration bags made and delivered to her house for dispatch. She shared the photos on her Instagram yesterday, and captioned it: This is the first batch of ration bags which has just arrived. It’s the right time when we should play our part and shouldn’t wait for others to come and save people. We sure need to come together during these trying times and help those in need. Not everyone can survive a lockdown unless of course, we help them in some way. We can all do our bit, can’t we?

Mahira Khan advising the nation to look out for underprivileged

As the number of confirmed cases surge, a lockdown has been called for in most parts of the country. People are scared, locked into their houses, and while most of us take this for granted, there are people out there who cannot survive a lockdown.

These people make just enough in a day to feed their families, and for the daily wage earners, paid leave is a concept unknown. Mahira Khan advised the nation to care for the underprivileged and spread awareness so these needy families can survive the nationwide quarantine. She advised that we can all make this time easy for them by allowing them paid leaves and educating them about the virus.

The Superstar actress tweeted: If you are educated, if you can survive a month without work or in a position of power/privilege then this battle is yours more than anyone else’s! “We must take care of those who are not in our position - make them aware, give them paid leaves, make their life easy! #COVID2019.

 We have housemaids, cooks, drivers and other house help that we can reach out, easily. Let's do this, Pakistan!

Zarrar's trailer is out & it looks promising!

Shaan Shahid’s directorial Zarrar dropped its trailer for the nation on Pakistan Day, amidst a countrywide lockdown. Well, finally some good news, something we all deserve during this global quarantine.

The idea of releasing the trailer on Pakistan Day makes sense, as the movie revolves around patriotism whereby Zarrar, played by Shaan is out to save the country from threats.

Zarrar is part of the special unit of ISI and is on a mission to find peace for his country. The trailer has a dark and gory feel to it, but its patriotic nonetheless.

Directed by Shaan himself, the film features Nadeem Baig, Kiran Malik, Shafqat Cheema, Nayyar Ejaz and Rashid Naz in pivotal roles, as evident in the trailer. Nadeem Baig plays Major General Mujtaba, a mentor to Zarrar. Kiran plays his love interest, who seems to have been abducted by the enemy.

The film trailer sure looks promising, and we can’t wait for it to release already. It has been scheduled to hit the floors in 2020, but we don’t have an exact date yet.

Here's how celebrities are making the most of their time under quarantine

With coronavirus making sure to keep everyone locked inside their safe sanctuaries, more and more people are finding it hard to look for entertainment within the confines of their home.

COVID-19 also does not discriminate between celebrities and the general public which means they’re under lock-down as well, and in true celeb fashion, many have taken to social media to document their quarantine shenanigans.

Here’s how celebs are using their down time – some are quite creative while others are wasting time (like many of us), while many other have valuable advice

Maya Ali decided to spread a much-needed message – how to clean your house! The actor filmed a time lapse of herself scrubbing away at major points of contact in her home. “Let’s start from our home,” she wrote and this is one message we all need to put in effect immediately!

Ayeza Khan may not have been the ‘ideal’ mother in Meray Paas Tum Ho but in real life, she’s just that and much more as illustrated by her mini advise series on Instagram featuring her little one, Hoorain Taimoor.

That’s not all. She even took the time out to pen down a message on how to take care of your little ones during this time. “Your children need atleast 10 to 13 hours of sleep. A regular bedtime routine encourages good sleep patterns. A routine of bath and story before bedtime can signal their brain that its time to sleep,” she wrote.

Ali Zafar turned to holding a live session to impart awareness about coronavirus. He titled the video ‘How to Fight Coronavirus.’

Newly wed Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly also made sure to be on top of their quarantine game – both of them posted pictures on their Instagrams with a lengthy caption on how you can stay safe. “The solution is simple. Stay home. Wash your hands. For 20 seconds! Keep your distance from others as much as possible,” they wrote.

Hania Aamir also chimed in with valuable advice, albeit in a more fun way – someone has to keep the spark alive during trying times! Here are some highlights from her message: “Logon se door rahain. Yeh wala mera favourite hai. (Stay away from people – this one’s my favourite.)” “Hand shake jhappi pappi se parhaiz karain (Avoid hand shakes, kisses and hugs.)” “Jo shoday bache hain jinko lagta hai kai unko kuch nahi hoga woh baaz ajaen. (To the kids who think they won’t be affected, stop it.)

It’s pretty heartening to see some celebrities using their platform for the greater good! While others are making the most of their time just living out their down time and bonding over it, and we’re not mad about it! Case in point: Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain. Iqra shared an adorable video of her husband braiding her hair at home – sometimes, it really is the simple things that can put a smile on our faces!

Humayun Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui who were on a Mere Pas Tum Ho meet and greet trip to the States have returned home and gone into self-quarantine. Social distancing amid the COVID-19 outbreak is the need of the hour, and we all need to be cautious!

Humayun Saeed replied to a tweet shared by Vasay Chaudhry, after returning to Pakistan, where he hinted self-isolation:

Film legend Muhammad Ali honoured on his 14th death anniversary

LAHORE: The 14th death anniversary of legendary Pakistani film actor Muhammad Ali isobserved today on March 19. The actor who was dubbed as the ‘Shahanshae Jazbat‘( Emperor of Emotions ) by fans and peers alike was a domineering force in Pakistani cinema from the 60s all the way into the 80s.

n the wake of his passing, several of his contemporaries and prominent figures of Lollywood paid their tribute to the late actor. Veteran film director Altaf Hussain went on to praise both Ali’s acting ability and star persona. “Although Muhammad Ali had the looks of a leading man, at the time he entered the industry it was at it’s peak in terms of stars. It was Ali’s acting and determination that allowed him to succeed. His acting abilities allowed him to do justice to every role he was presented. Ali was one the prominent leading men of Lollywood’s golden age and will forever be remembered for his contribution,” said Hussain.

Likewise, actor Durdana Rahman also sung praises of Ali’s command on his craft. ” Ali’s interest in acting brought him in the industry with him delivering a number of blockbusters through the course of his thirty year-long career. He performed brilliantly in all the roles he was presented with. During the peak of his career, all the leading ladies wanted to work opposite him,” said Rahman.

It wasn’t just Ali’s acting ability and charisma that earned him the respect of the industry. According to actor Shiba Butt, off-screen Ali was a very generous and charitable person. ” Muhammad Ali was a soft-hearted and humble man who cared about the not so financially well off artists of the industry. He established an Ali Zaiba Foundation when he was at the peak of his career. The Ali Zaiba Foundation works towards the aid of poor artists of the country,” Butt said.

Born on  April 1, 1931, Ali’s family migrated from India to Karachi after the 1947 partition. He later shifted to Lahore. Ali made his acting debut in 1962 with the film Chiragh jalta raha. During the course of his two-decade-long career, Ali delivered several hit films including  Khandan, Aulaad, Khamos Raho, Shararat, Aaj ki Raat and many others. Ali has worked in a total of 250 films, 94 of which he starred as a leading man.

Through the course of his career, Ali had the honour of working with some of the big names in the industry including Shamim Ara, Zaiba, Waheed Murad, Sultan Rahi and many others. Later on, he married actor Zaiba with the two of them becoming a prominent couple in Lollywood.

The actor has won several awards in his lifetime. During 1984 he won the Pride of Performance Award. For his services to the local film industry, Ali was given the Tamgha e Imtiaz and certain other awards including  Bolan Award, Noshad Award at India, Al Nasar Award at Dubai, Pakistan Academy Award and Nigar Awards. He died in 2006 at the age of 74 from a heart attack.

Rabya Kulsoom All Set to Make Her Big Screen Debut with "Gawah Rehna"

The talented young actress Rabya Kulsoom after proving her mettle on the small screen is all set to take over the big screens with her debut movie ‘Gawah Rehna.’

Gawah Rehna is set in the 1920s, against the backdrop of Khilafat Movement, which was led by the Muslims of South Asia, before Pakistan came into being. Starring alongside an ensemble cast, including the legendary actor Qavi Khan, Rabya Kulsoom will be seen in a totally new look playing a Hindu character who is the love interestfor the leading man in the film.

Talking about her big-screen debut, the actress said, “I couldn’t have thought of a more challenging role to begin my foray on the big screen. Portraying a Hindu was also a career first and I am really looking forward to everyone seeing this intense story when it releases !”

The film, written & directed by Tahir Mehmoud, has been shot in Gujranwala and is all set to release in both Pakistan and Turkey in 2020.

Nabeel Qureshi postpones shoot for his film ‘Fatman’

Earlier in November, 2019, producer duo Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza shared that they will be producing two new films in 2020, titled Fatman and Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad.

While Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa were revealed as the lead stars of Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad in October, Ahmed Ali Butt was roped in to play the protagonist in Fatman.

However, Qureshi has just made an announcement regarding the latter on his Twitter, claiming the production for Fatman cannot be continued due to the coronavirus.

He wrote, “Surrounded by concern regarding COVID-19, We at FilmWala Pictures have made the decision to postpone the shoot of our film Fatman. We take the health and safety of our crew and actors seriously, In the meanwhile let’s pray for a healthier and safer world #coronavirusinpakistan”

Butt had earlier shared the first poster of the upcoming film to break the news of him having signed the deal with the producers.

“Looking forward to make a great film with these great creative filmmakers and hope you’ll all love it as much as I love the script… InshaAllah see you next year,” said the Punjab Nahi Jaungi star.

From the sets of London Nahi Jaunga!

Humayun Saeed aka Danish left us all in tears in the final episode of ‘Mere Pas Tum Ho’ but he is up and working to entertain us all in ‘London Nahi Jaunga’. This Nadeem Baig directorial is being shot at Darbar Mahal in Bhawalpur these days and is slated to release in 2020.

LNJ is thought to be a sequel of ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ but Nadeem Baig says it’s not! It may have similar settings, but the story is different, he promised. The favorite on-screen Jodi of PNJ is coming back again, alongside Gohar Rasheed and Kubra Khan as the new cast members.

 The film has begun shooting, and we have got a few BTS from the shoot happening in Bahawalpur. LNJ’s scriptwriter is the current favorite ‘Controversy King’ - Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar, who has been penning scripts for most of Humayun Saeed’s films and dramas.

Don’t bring your kids to watch The Legend of Maula Jatt, advises director Bilal Lashari

After a number of movies claiming to be family entertainers - with many not being so at all - director Bilal Lashari warns his audience against bringing children to The Legend of Maula Jatt.

“The Legend of Maula Jatt is not for the faint-hearted or children”, said the filmmaker in a statement.

“Parents might not find the film suitable for their kids because of the graphic nature of few scenes so I would strictly advise against bringing children to cinema. Such outright violence is not for the faint-hearted and little ones.”

TLOMJ claims to be the biggest action movie in the history of Pakistan and with that kind of statement it's understandable that action-packed fighting sequences will have their fair share of blood and gore.

Bilal Lashari's contemporary take on the Punjabi cult classic Maula Jatt has been years in the making, with all of us on the edge of our seats for its release. Finally it was announced last week that the film is ready to hit cinemas this year. The film stars Fawad Khan as Maula Jatt and Hamza Ali Abbasi as Noori Nath.

“The film transcends cultural and linguistic divide," said Lashari. "The content will be very palatable to the new generation that in times to come will extend the immortality of the fictional characters, Maula And Noori.”

Lashari has also written the screenplay for the film along with veteran film writer Nasir Adeeb, who wrote the original 1979's Maula Jatt. The film will hit cinemas on Eid-ul-Fitr.

#AuratMarch2020: Celebrities use their influence for the greater good

KARACHI: March 8, 2020 marks the International Women’s Day around the globe, but in Pakistan it also marks the single most polarising day of the year – the day of the Aurat March.

Despite unprecedented backlash from the far-right, women this year marched with even more fervor and what felt like renewed energy and gusto. In Karachi, several rallied to Frere Hall, making this year with its three layers of security, a human chain protecting the marchers and a bigger number of people marching than ever before, the biggest March in its history.

The air echoed with ‘Mera Jism Meri Marz (My Body, My Choice),” the slogan that was also the theme for this year’s Aurat March and became the subject of controversy before it. Other popular chants of the evening were “Transgender rights are human rights,” and “Hum lekay rahengay, Azaadi (We will take our freedom at any cost)”.

Among the people who made the effort to be a part of this year’s protest were celebrities who showed up to use their influence for a bigger cause. Talking to The Express Tribune, they talked about why they were there and what Mera Jism Meri Marzi meant to them.

“You know, I was thinking earlier, why do I march? And it’s because I was brought up in a home that had very strong women – my mother worked, my sister works, they’ve made their own choices their whole life. They’ve also had men who have supported their choices but some don’t have that. I think the Aurat March is really about fixing an equilibrium and to reinstate that women are as human as their fellow men.”

As far as Mera Jism, Meri Marzi is concerned, I think everyone has a right to their own selves. People are saying that it should be ‘meri zindagi, meri marzi’ but it’s really about the body. The body is how we inhabit ourselves in this world so everyone should have a right to do what they want with their bodies whether it’s women or men. Especially when sexual abuse is rampant and harassment is at a rise, everyone needs to be aware of their bodies. ”

“I am marching against domestic violence and for equality,” said the star. “I feel great when people shout ‘Mera jism, Meri marzi’ and I feel it should be even more unapologetic. Shoaib Mansoor dedicates a special song to 'Women'

International Women’s Day witnessed women marching across the country to celebrate womanhood, demanding equality. Alongside this, Shoaib Mansoor in collaboration with 'Superstar' actress Mahira Khan dedicated a song to all these women of indomitable will.

The song ‘Dua-e-Reem’ is a unique take on one of Allama Iqbal's’ poems ‘Lab Pe Ati Hai Dua Ban Kay’. The verses of the original poem have been tweaked, and ladies, as seen in the video, are singing it to give prayers to a bride to be (played by Mahira Khan) during a sangeet ceremony.

Ladies in the song pray for the bride’s strength to tolerate her husband’s brutalities without complaints and submit to all his demands. Mahira Khan, who doesn’t approve of this prayer makes a prayer for herself to lead a loving life with her husband.

Directed by Shoaib Mansoor, the song is sung by Damia Farooq. Dua-e-Reem is a prayer to all women, an anthem that celebrates their strong will and supports their demand for equality.



The powerful lyrics paint a picture of a progressive mindset where a woman is not to be treated as a man’s shoe. She deserves to be treated right, and with respect. What do you think?

Ali Rehman Khan starts shooting for his next film

After making a mark with popular dramas like Diyar-e-Dil (2015) & Khaas (2019) and delivering remarkable performances on the big screen with blockbusters Janaan (2016), Parchi (2018) & Heer Maan Ja (2019), Ali Rehman Khan starts shooting for his next outing on the big screen with producer & director Wajahat Rauf.

Titled “Parday Main Rehnay Do” the film is directed by Wajahat Rauf under his own banner Showcase Films, and Ali will be playing the lead role opposite his Jannan co- star Hania Aamir.

Haseeb Hasan & Umera Ahmed’s Upcoming Blockbuster "AAN"

The renowned Director and Producer, Haseeb Hasan of Hamdan Films, is gearing up to bring another blockbuster feature film titled ‘AAN’. The film features Fawad Khan in the lead, a world-renowned actor that lives in the hearts of many people. Fawad Khan is the biggest name in the Pakistan Film Industry who has not only gained a name for himself but also for our beloved country, Pakistan. The megastar will be seen in an avatar like never before.

'Mera Jism Meri Marzi' supports making prostitution legal: Ahmed Ali Butt

Actor Ahmed Ali Butt believes that the slogan Mera Jism Meri Marzi is a Western campaign that is being exploited locally. In a recent Instagram story, Butt talked about how the slogan that otherwise goes against the country’s cultural values is being promoted in Pakistan ahead of the Aurat March on Sunday.

“I have even less sympathy for people who exploit the so-called Mera J Merey XYZ”. Its a Western campaign which supports, make abortion legal, abolish ban on organ sale and make prostitution legal,” he said in the story.

Butt then went on to talk about how it was said to see how people are following such “funded” movements. “When it comes to women rights, Islam has the most rights rights and respect for women. It’s sad to see how we forgot that and follow a trend and funded movements,” he said.

Contrary to Butt’s view point, the organisers of the Aurat March have on many occasions clarified that the slogan is about bodily autonomy and independence for women.

“‘Mera jism meri marzi’ means that women want bodily autonomy and independence. To be able to have the right to choose in matters concerning their bodies. To choose what to wear without fear of rape. To choose who to marry. To choose whether they want to have children, how many, and when they want to have them. To not have their husbands rape them because they feel entitled to their bodies after marriage. To have access to mobility in their day-to-day lives for work and for leisure. To not have their bodies maimed in the name of having their sexuality controlled,” a recent Instagram post from the Aurat March account read.

Iffat Omer boycotts 'London Nahi Jaunga'

Iffat Omer had agreed to associate herself with Nadeem Baig’s directorial ‘London Nahi Jaunga’ despite a strong exception to KRQ’s remarks about other senior actors in the past. She has now decided to step away from LNJ.

The recent spat between Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar and activist Marvi Sarmad has got the entire nation talking and Iffat is amongst the many disregarding KRQ for his misdemeanor. She recently announced boycotting the playwright and anything and anyone related to him. She wrote: Biggest regret of my life. I disassociate myself from that film won't even go to watch it. I apologize and am ashamed of myself for not taking this decision earlier. But from today I boycott him (Khalil-ur-Rehman) and anybody working with him.

Previously, she also spoke up against the misleading gender politics and misogyny promoted through the popular and hit TV drama Mere Pas Tum Ho, written by KRQ. Now that she has come out about how she feels about working with KRQ, how will the rest of the film cast react? Will Mehwish, Humayun & Kubra step away?

Ahsan Khan replaces Feroze Khan in Chakkar!

Chakkar will be Nawaz’s fourth movie, after Wrong No, its sequel, & Mehrunisa V Lub U. Earlier the cast was finalized with Feroze Khan and Mawra Hocane, but there has been a change. Ahsan Khan has been cast to play the lead, as Feroze Khan drops out.

The actor confirmed this in an interview, saying:

 I was always Nida and Yasir’s [Nawaz] first choice for the lead. Nida had asked me if I was interested in playing the lead when she and Yasir came on my show months ago. [The husband and wife duo] gave off good vibes.

We haven’t heard from Mawra yet, about whether she is still playing the female lead or not. Ahsan will be playing the character of Kabir in this Yasir Nawaz directorial.

Chakkar is a thriller/murder mystery. The release date and other details about the film haven’t been shared yet.

2020 - the Year of Films!

2020 looks like a promising year for films in Pakistan. 2019 didn’t do well in this regard, but this year it’s bigger films with bigger casts. Sarmad Khoosat’s Zindagi Tamasha tops the list, but its release date has been pushed further owing to some religious bigots making baseless claims against the contents of the film. The Legend of Maula Jatt is another movie (a remake of the original Maula Jatt) starring some of our favorite stars that we have waited long enough. It’s finally releasing in 2020. Phew! Here’s a list of all the big films we are looking at, for release in 2020!

Zindagi Tamasha

Initially scheduled for release in January 2020, the release of this Sarmad Khoosat production has been pushed further, but hoping everything goes as planned, we can expect the film to hit the floors in February. The Legend of Maula Jatt

TLMJ has kept the audiences waiting since its first look that came out in 2019. Shortly after, the movie was met with censor board issues, which seem to have blurred now. Directed by Bilal Lashari, this Fawad Khan starrer is tentatively scheduled for release on Eid Ul Fitr 2020. Fawad Khan is accompanied by Hamza Ali Abbasi, Gohar Rasheed, Mahira Khan and Humaima Malick in this Punjabi action-drama remake.

Money-Back Guarantee

With an extensive star cast, this Faisal Qureshi comedy directorial is nearing completion. Money-Back Guarantee brings together Fawad Khan, Wasim Akram, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Gohar Rasheed, Kiran Malik, Mani, and Jan Rambo. Muniba Mazari (the activist) and Shaniera Akram, will also be making their silver screen debut with this film. Shaniera Akram will be playing a correspondent for BBC. Dum Mastam is a romantic comedy and actor Adnan Siddiqui’s debut production. Instagram sensation, Momin Saqib has been cast as one of the supporting cast in this film. Tich Button

Farhan Saeed’s debut film and his wife and actress Urwa Hocane’s debut production, Tich Button is scheduled for release on Eid Ul Fitr this year. Directed by Qasim Ali Mureed, Tich Button is a movie about love, friendships and a whole lot of drama and fun. Feroze Khan is all set to make his comeback in the film industry with this movie, and his female lead is to be played by Sonya Hussain. Iman Ali has been cast to play the love interest of Farhan Saeed in the film.

London Nahi Jaunga 

Mind you, London Nahin Jaunga is not a sequel to Punjab Nahi Jaungi, but a completely different story in the same genre. Directed by Nadeem Baig, and penned by Khalil Ur Rehman, LNJ is bringing together yet again, Mehwish Hayat, Humayun Saeed and Kubra Khan in lead roles. Gohar Rasheed is playing the role of Humayun’s best friend in the movie, which is anticipated to hit cinemas on Eid Ul Adha this year!

Quaid e Azam Zindabad

Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa have recently wrapped filming of Quaid e Azam Zindabad, an action-comedy written and directed by Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza. Fahad plays a cop in this family entertainer, while Mahira plays his love interest. The film is scheduled for release on Eid Ul Adha this year.
