KARACHI: Chambaili – the Shahzad Nawaz socio political film that was released earlier last year in Pakistan is all set for its UK release in February.
As per the official Facebook pageChambaili will be releasing in theatres in Glasgow, Leeds, Bradford, Birmingham, Manchester, Hatfield, Kingston, Uxbridge and Panton street to name a few.
The movie was released in Pakistan a couple of weeks before the May 11 elections and did an average business on the box office partly because of the prevalent social conditions.
It was released on 40 screens and generated a total business of Rs25 million with a major slump in business after the elections.
Chambaili is set in pre-election Mulke Khudadad, a reflection of Pakistan today where target killings, crime and suo motu notices are the norm.
The protagonist Saif (Shahzad Nawaz) has a generally happy existence with his friends and family in Mulke Khudadad. His fiancée (Mehreen Syed) and some other friends often discuss the dark future of their country and are torn between staying and escaping.
Things change when Saif is badly beaten by Inquilab party workers and no police officers come to his rescue.
At this point, under the leadership of their friend Moosa (Ehteshamuddin), Saif and his friends decide to stand up to the political party and go on a hunger strike.
