Sherdil's Revenue to go Towards Martyrs' Families

As its release date draws closer, the PAF action drama Sherdil continues creating more of a stir. Initially noticed for the high relevance of its subject material following the Indo-Pakistan tensions, the movie was recently able to rope in one of the leading distributors of foreign films for its middle-east rollout.

Within Pakistan, the movie continues with its marketing blitz. The Sherdil team, including producer Nomaan Khan and actors Meekal Zulfiqar and Hassan Niazi were on Juggun Kazim’s morning show this week, where they unveiled a figurine collectible for Meekal Zulfiqar’s character and also discussed the evolution of the project and the cast’s on-set experiences. They have also been touring major universities, such as FUIC, across the country. In another important development, the movie was able to bring on-board a major Pakistani telecommunications company as one of its sponsor.

Now the film’s producer and writer Nomaan Khan has announced that 20% of the film’s proceeds would go towards families of the martyrs through PAF’s Shaheed Fund. This jaw-dropping figure would provide audiences even more incentive towards watching the film, since their theater tickets would not only be paying for the price of admission but also contributing significantly towards a social cause that has gained significance following the recent regional tensions. Corporate social responsibility is vital for communities to benefit from a successful commercial project, and it is especially praiseworthy that local film makers such as Khan are taking it seriously as well.

Sherdil’s trailer was unveiled on March 5, and two of its songs, the romantic track O Janiya and the patriotic rock-flavored number Sanson mein baqi hai dum were released a few days back. Khan says he is elated with the kind of response the film has been able to generate, and wherever the team has visited for promotions they have been cheered and showered with much love from the audience.

Sherdil is all set to release on March 22 over the Pakistan day weekend. It will be releasing alongside Laal Kabootar, and the movie’s film makers are hopeful that they will be able to set the film theaters abuzz with patriotic fervor over the holiday period.

The film is directed by Azfar Jafri, and produced and written by Nomaan Khan. It stars Mekaal Zulfiqar, Hassan NIazi, Armeena Khan and Sabeeka Imam, and features photography by Hollywood cinematographer Riki Butland.
