Mahira Khan posts love note for rumoured beau

One of Pakistan's biggest superstars, Mahira Khan, has always kept one thing crystal clear - she would not take invading her privacy easily. The actor, who usually refrains from commenting on her personal life, has refused to speak about the 'controversies' she has been made a part of since the inception of her career

Mahira, unfortunately like many of her peers, had been linked to several men in the industry. Be it a few viral photos, some gossip, the Raees star has always kept it eerily quiet when it comes to discussing her romantic relationships. Until last year, Mahira in a tete-a-tete with veteran star Samina Peerzada shared that she is indeed in love but didn't reveal the person she was in love with.

Now, we finally have an answer. The actor recently took to Instagram and shared a beautiful excerpt on love on what seemed like her beau's birthday. She then went on to tag Salim Karim. Many, among Frieha Altaf, Aiman Khan, Areeba Habib, left heartfelt remarks on the same post.

"My love," the Verna actor captioned the post.

Last year, when asked by the veteran actor whether Mahira was in love with someone special, the Raees star smiled sheepishly and nodded her head. "Yeah, I think I am in love," Mahira smiled. When Samina went on to congratulate her, the Sadqay Tumhare actor added, "I don't know, I am so shy about it."

Samina then inquired if she would know the person Mahira has fallen for, to which the former VJ had asserted, "You might but he's not from the industry."

Samina then asked Mahira if she would want to name the person, she shared that she wouldn't. "This is one thing I would want to protect with my life. I want to protect my child," the Bol actor said, adding, "At first, I wanted to show everyone what an adorable baby Azlan is, but now I've become more cautious. If you notice, you really wouldn't see Azlan's face full front, it'd either be a side pose or a back pose."

Samina ensured her that she had all the right in the world to do that. "I know we shouldn't be so superstitious and I wasn't someone who you would call a vehmi, but now I'm just like I don't want any Nazar (evil eye)," Mahira shared.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy gives Sonya Hussyn a dressing down for 'dissing' Mahira Khan

A three-year-old clip of the actor's from The After Moon Show resurfaced recently, seeing her respond to a question posed by Yasir Hussain. The host inquires what film Hussyn would have turned down had she been Mahira Khan, to which the actor says she would have refused to be SRK's sidekick in Raees.

Now, the Oscar-winning director has called out the starlet over her choice of words and asserted that such remarks only reflect poorly on one’s upbringing.

In the comments section of a post made by a digital publication, Chinoy wrote, “Don’t think you’ll ever be Mahira Khan so you won’t ever get to say no. Don’t diss other women in the industry; it reflects poorly on you and your upbringing.”

Hussyn had shared her views during the rapid fire segment of the show. She had been given three options “Verna, Raees or Ho Mann Jahan,” to which she had stated, “I wouldn’t have done Raees since I have no interest in playing Shah Rukh Khan’s sidekick.”

Full of gratitude: Mahira Khan's ten years in the entertainment industry

It hasn't been an easy journey for Pakistan's arguably most famous superstar Mahira Khan. The VJ turned actor has recently completed ten years of her acting career. Khan's first two acting projects, her debut film Bol and first-ever drama serial Neeyat, released on the same date ten years ago. Since then, she has never looked back.

The Humsafar star took to Instagram and bowed her head with gratitude as she thanked her fans for immense love and support. "So, I completed 10 years in this industry as an actor two days back. My film Bol and my drama serial Neeyat released on the same day on the 24th of June 2011," Khan penned, adding, "I bow my head in gratitude to all of you - for this magical journey I’ve had and continue to have."

She further added, "There have been many ups and downs, there have been moments of feeling broken and alone, and moments of feeling elated but my fans have been there rock-solid, behind me. My constant. I am so grateful for the love. I promise to work harder, I promise to give back. I promise that your love won’t go in vain. So much love, always.

In the video, Khan narrates, "I think you see your life in an isolated form. You cannot say that I have worked hard for something today, so I will see the results of it the same day. It's a lifelong process and somewhere along the road, God blesses you and He has blessed me with their [fans] love

She added, "I think the good in us; the successful person in us is basically equal to all our resolved issues. And I feel, I’ve always felt that the everything bad in us, the person who prevents us from really living equals to all our unresolved issues."

Many fellow actors extended love and support to the Verna actor. The likes of Ayeza Khan, Sohai Ali Abro, Mansha Pasha, Aijaz Aslam, Ayesha Omar, Ali Kazmi, Aisha Khan, Nida Yasir, Nadia Hussain among others commented on her post, congratulating the actor on completing a decade in the showbiz industry.

Khan's fruitful career has seen many highs. From walking the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival to strutting the runway at Paris Fashion Week, the Raees star has seen it all. One of her career milestones was working with Bollywood's King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan in Raees as her debut project in Bollywood.

After a year of acting, Khan has decided to don the producer's hat with her first-ever production - a web series. The actor partnered with Nina Kashif to produce Barwaan Khiladi, which revolved around "friendships, relationships, unity, failure, success, love, and courage."

Earlier, speaking to Mira Sethi, the Humsafar star talked about dreams and her time in the entertainment industry. “Nobody tells you that there’s always that one challenge or price attached with a certain dream you wish for the most. Certainly, these hurdles came along the way when I started my journey with a bag full of dreams," she had said.

Lastly, the actor revealed why being a part of this industry has always helped her grow and heal from situations in her life. "I always had this work, industry as my backbone. I always thought what I do today will be fruitful tomorrow. I feel like I can never leave because it never left me, kept me striving for better days.

Many offers came from India, but I was scared: Mahira Khan addresses ban on Pakistani artists

Mahira Khan is the Pakistani film and television industry’s golden child, and her talent is one not confined within borders. The Humsafar star made waves in India with her stellar performance in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees. Well-received and widely-loved, her act cemented her position as an actor of international prestige.

However, political tensions between India and Pakistan have no longer allowed local celebrities to perform across the border. In a recent interview with the Film Companion’s Anupama Chopra, Mahira spoke about this unfortunate turn of events and her experience of working in India and collaborating with neighbouring artists.

She said, "I guess, having experienced it firsthand, it’s just sad. When I think about it… I mean, we have all moved on. That’s what we do, if we don’t have this, we do something else. That’s what happens. But I feel like a great opportunity for the entire subcontinent to come together and collaborate was lost. I think it might happen again. Who knows?"

With reference to offers that were made to her at the time, Mahira added, "A lot of series were offered to me and at that time. I don’t know if anybody will understand when I say this, but I was scared. I was genuinely just scared. It wasn’t about what people say, I was just like, ‘I don’t know if I want to go there’. And there was some amazing content, and I didn’t want to miss out on it."

On further opportunities to collaborate with Indian artists, Mahira noted, “I was scared and I have no shame in admitting it. Now I am a bit more like, ‘No, come on yaar, you can’t let something that happened, which was political, affect your choices.’ So, I don’t think I will do that anymore and I hope that we collaborate, even if it's on digital or in any way."

Mahira’s son says his mom should win an Oscar for The Legend Of Maula Jatt

Mahira Khan has been a bit off the radar for the last couple of months. While her debut production Baarwan Khiladi is all the rage these days, Khan herself seems to have taken the lockdown as seriously as everyone should. The actor was finally seen on screen after a long hiatus in an interview on a local TV channel where she discussed her early days in showbiz and journey so far.

A star in the making

Mahira was her parents’ eldest child who was spoiled with love during her early years, much of which continues to this day. “I wasn’t a greedy child, but I may have been mischievous. I was lost in my own world. It was me, my little brother, my cousins who were all boys, and I was the boss of them,” revealed the Raees actor. “Since I was spoiled, their threats to tell on me to my mamu never amounted to much. I knew there was no such scene.”

When prompted to think of a career path that did not have anything to do with show business, the actor responded saying, “I would have been a doctor. I enjoy tending to other people’s wounds… I wouldn’t mind being a nurse.”

Khan recalls how she was scouted by producer Ghazanfar Ali for Indus TV. “I was there during my summer holidays and went to pick up a few friends who were working at Indus at the time. That was where Ghazanfar Sahab saw me. He had an eye actually. He told me to become a VJ, but I said I didn’t want to. He asked what I wanted to be, and I responded telling him I wanted to be a movie star. He told me I’d get there as well but to try out being a VJ right now, but I refused.” Back then MTV was launching in Pakistan, and whatever VJs they had at the time had been poached by another channel. “So, there was frenzy at the time. They requested me to do it, even if it was just for a week or two. After that, I got really into it.”Speaking of her hit TV series Humsafar, the actor revealed that she was scouted for the show after a biscuit ad she had done previously with her co-star Fawad Khan. She became pregnant with her son Azlaan shortly before she was to start filming for a Mehreen Jabbar drama and then three or four days after Azlaan was born, Shoaib sahab called her [for Bol].

Movie star to Mommy

As far as being a mommy is concerned, Mahira said she is a rather lenient mother. When her son was younger, she would make it a point to take him everywhere, including public spaces. As he grew older, the actor revealed that she had to take a step back due to her growing popularity. “There comes a time when a person starts getting recognised too much, and I knew my son would be irked by that so I had to make a decision.” She playfully revealed that her son loves the trailer for her upcoming feature Maula Jutt, ‘Mama, you must win an Oscar for it,’ he says, recalled Khan.

When asked about a rumour that she doesn’t enjoy performing on stage in award shows, Khan responded by saying, “I used to feel that since I am an actor, I couldn’t perform. It was a mindset that I had, which was incorrect”, she said.

“I would say things like, ‘When I have my own song, then I will perform’, or ‘Why should I perform an Indian song.’ It just kept going and going until finally one day Asim or somebody said to me that this stage is the same stage that you will act on and dance on. This stage deserves respect.”

Mahira Khan, Atif Aslam, Aiman Khan make it to 'Forbes'

Three Pakistani celebrities have made it to Forbes’ list of Asia's 100 Digital Stars. This includes renowned artists from across the continent like Bollywood biggies such as Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, Katherine Langford, KJ Apa, Keith Urban and others.

Mahira Khan was the first star to be named in the list, which seemed to be in no particular order. According to the publication, the Raees star was to be a part of the much-awaited action drama The Legend of Maula Jatt, which is touted to be Pakistan’s most expensive film to date. "Khan uses her social media presence — nearly seven million Instagram followers and over four million on Facebook — to raise awareness about mental health issues, violence against women and breast cancer," the description for the actor read.

Atif Aslam also made it. Forbes shared, "Released in May, his song Asma-ul-Husna recites Allah’s 99 names to encourage hope during the pandemic and has over 22 million views on YouTube. Aslam urged his 20 million Facebook followers to stay home to curb the spread of the coronavirus."

Aiman Khan, the older of the popular Khan twins, who is Pakistan's most followed celebrity on Instagram, also received a mention in the prestigious list. An abuser cannot be a hero: Mahira Khan

Pakistan's arguably biggest superstar Mahira Khan has never been the one to care for the lists. However, she always finds herself in one or two almost every year. This year, the Raees star was named in the prestigious BBC 100 Most Influential Women of 2020. And she is very humble about it. Khan took to Instagram and expressed her gratitude over the mention among the likes of Jane Fonda.

"In a year of incredible change, it is only fitting that we acknowledge the female leaders who have helped us weather the storm," stated the outlet while releasing the names As for the reason why Khan was shortlisted, the network acknowledged that she "speaks up about the causes and issues that matter to encourage change."

"Khan is no ordinary actor – she is outspoken against sexual violence, refuses to endorse skin-lightening creams and supports the fight against racism," claimed the outlet. It went on to relay the Bin Roye star's determination to "tackle social issues in her native Pakistan by changing the narrative in films and on TV."In a recent interview with the publication, Khan shared her not-so-easy journey over the years.

Not joining bandwagons

"I've been approached from the beginning of my career, not just as an actor - even when I was a VJ - I was approached to do a lot of fairness cream products, skin whitening products. It doesn't make sense to me, it never made sense to me," she said in the three-minute clip. "So, I am endorsing an idea that a darker girl, a man is not as attractive as someone with a fairer complexion? It just didn't make sense to me."

First accolade

Khan rose to fame for her portrayal as Khirad in blockbuster show Humsafar, which also starred Fawad Khan. The former won a Lux Style Award for Best Actress, making it her first-ever award win. "This is my first award as an actor, for a drama (Humsafar) that really launched me, in the year that I was launched," she said as she holds the accolade. "I won many awards after that but this remains very, very special," she shared.

The good work

The Verna star was appointed as the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan in 2019. The actor had earlier shared few pictures from a refugee camp she had then visited on Instagram. Showing the same picture, now in a frame, adding, "Let me tell you about this photograph. This was the first time I went as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador to one of the camps, one that was in Karachi. We make passing comments on refugees, let's say Afghan refugees in Pakistan. There is a certain idea of what the Afghan refugees have brought into this country. We are there to raise awareness for that."

Of changing narratives

While attending the protests at Karachi Press Club against the motorway rape case, Khan made a point of changing narratives in pop culture. She went on to share how imperative it is for our masses to be educated over sex education.

"Something happens, there is a lot of noise about it. Everybody gets on the streets, everybody talks about it on the media, and then what? And then it dies out. Another news comes out, another story comes out or another rape happens! Then that is just another name or another hashtag attached to it," she said now. "The problem is that we are not ready to educate our public or create programs that educate children, we are not ready to talk about it openly and I think we need to change that narrative while taking responsibility for it."

Khan lamented, "I am a big part of the media of this country. I feel that our films, our television serials, we have to change the narrative," Mahira asserted. "We can't just show a woman being assaulted (by a man) and then falling in love with him and show him to be the hero. A hero cannot be someone who is abusive. So, I think somewhere even we have to take that initiative."

She concluded her candid chat by skimming through the pages of a diary she had kept since before she had her baby boy, Azlan. "I have been writing before he was born," she smiled. "These pages are filled for him, there are few flowers too. As you can tell, I'm very sentimental about this."

Doppelganger alert: Mahira Khan lookalike spotted on Insta

We’ve all heard the age-old anecdote that there are seven people around the world that share the same face, but the chances of running into one are next to none. However, it seems like our celebs are in for some surprises as many of their lookalikes are popping up on social media! A few weeks back, an Iqra Aziz lookalike was spotted all the way in Lebanon. And now Mahira Khan has one, albeit much closer – the girl is here in Pakistan!

Kurasah Anwer, a lifestyle blogger on Instagram, has an uncanny resemblance to the Superstar actor and isn’t afraid of flaunting it! While she doesn’t go out of her way to mimic Mahira just by virtue of her looks, she has an understated glam to her - just like Mahira.

From the perfect pout to the shy, yet piercing glare, Kurasah’s features are much like Mahira’s but she has her own charm too. It is refreshing because it’s obvious that she isn’t trying hard to look like Mahira… she just does naturally!

Here’s the eeriest part – you don’t even need side by side comparisons every time to spot the resemblance between the two. From what we gather, if Kurasah were to catch our eye out of the blue, we might just stop and ask for a picture thinking its Mahira… and that’s saying something!

Many of her 15.9k followers on Instagram have already spotted the similarities between the two and many of her pictures routinely seem to garner comments ranging from, “OMG you look like Mahira Khan... For a second I got confused!” and “I thought she is Mahira Khan!”

Are you seeing what we and 15,000 other people are seeing? We hope so!

Mahira Khan opens up about the 'Saleem' in her life

Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan recently appeared in a very candid Live session with celebrity designer HSY. Opening up on a lot of things, she confessed that she has finally found that special someone in her life, other than her son Azlan.

HSY initiated the topic as he confirmed that Mahira is indeed in a relationship, while also revealing the name of the lucky guy as Saleem, albeit through a slight slip-of-tongue. “You are in love now, his name is Saleem,” the couturier said, as Mahira got a bit annoyed at the mention of her beau.

After resisting for some time, she finally let her guard down. HSY asked her, “When you look deep into his eyes, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?”Mahira answered by referencing a line from her super hit show Humsafar. “There’s a line in Humsafar, which I thought was beautiful, where Ashar says to Khirad, ‘Pata nahi tum mujhe kis naiki kay badlay main milli ho (I don’t know what I did to deserve you]. I think the same about Salim. I think the same about him.” she said.

The Superstar actor added that she feels blessed and thankful. “I don’t know what have I done in my life… must have done something good because of which Allah blessed me with…” the actor began before HSY chimed in, “Because of which Allah blessed you with Salim.”

Moving on, Mahira talked about how she may have been rewarded earlier as well with the birth of her son Azlan. “I feel like this for my child too. My child is someone I feel super grateful for. He is the centre of my world, everything revolves around him. But I feel the same way about him, the people I love; that there is something that I must have done right.”

The Verna actor was the latest guest in Samina Peerzada’s web show, Rewind with Samina Peerzada, and revealed that she is a committed woman.

Mahira Khan vows to donate to the PM's fund

The Prime Minister has set up COVID-19 relief fund to help those in need. The Superstar Mahira Hafeez Khan announced that she'd be contributing to the fund to do her part as a responsible citizen of the country.

As Imran Khan rightly pointed out that countrymen who are popular celebrities have a responsibility to the nation that has given them name and acclaim. It's is hence only right that they extend support to their beloved Pakistan as a repayment.

Mahira took to Twitter yesterday and said:

I pledge to donate to Imran Khan, PTI’s COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund. Anything in anyone’s capacity will make a difference. May we truly see relief for all. InshaAllah.

Mehwish Hayat also urged fellow Pakistanis to make generous donations in order to help the needy. She had earlier posted a video on her Twitter account asking people to donate for the doctors fighting this disease so they can be appropriately equipped to treat patients.

Let's us all fight this virus, together as a nation. Come forward and donate as much as you can!

Mahira Khan advising the nation to look out for underprivileged

As the number of confirmed cases surge, a lockdown has been called for in most parts of the country. People are scared, locked into their houses, and while most of us take this for granted, there are people out there who cannot survive a lockdown.

These people make just enough in a day to feed their families, and for the daily wage earners, paid leave is a concept unknown. Mahira Khan advised the nation to care for the underprivileged and spread awareness so these needy families can survive the nationwide quarantine. She advised that we can all make this time easy for them by allowing them paid leaves and educating them about the virus.

The Superstar actress tweeted: If you are educated, if you can survive a month without work or in a position of power/privilege then this battle is yours more than anyone else’s! “We must take care of those who are not in our position - make them aware, give them paid leaves, make their life easy! #COVID2019.

We have housemaids, cooks, drivers and other house help that we can reach out, easily. Let's do this, Pakistan!

Shoaib Mansoor dedicates a special song to 'Women'

International Women’s Day witnessed women marching across the country to celebrate womanhood, demanding equality. Alongside this, Shoaib Mansoor in collaboration with 'Superstar' actress Mahira Khan dedicated a song to all these women of indomitable will.

The song ‘Dua-e-Reem’ is a unique take on one of Allama Iqbal's’ poems ‘Lab Pe Ati Hai Dua Ban Kay’. The verses of the original poem have been tweaked, and ladies, as seen in the video, are singing it to give prayers to a bride to be (played by Mahira Khan) during a sangeet ceremony.

Ladies in the song pray for the bride’s strength to tolerate her husband’s brutalities without complaints and submit to all his demands. Mahira Khan, who doesn’t approve of this prayer makes a prayer for herself to lead a loving life with her husband.

Directed by Shoaib Mansoor, the song is sung by Damia Farooq. Dua-e-Reem is a prayer to all women, an anthem that celebrates their strong will and supports their demand for equality.

The powerful lyrics paint a picture of a progressive mindset where a woman is not to be treated as a man’s shoe. She deserves to be treated right, and with respect. What do you think?

Unapologetic and fierce: The new face of Mahira Khan

KARACHI: Mahira Khan has always been too cautious. She has always been wary of how she presents herself to the media and public. In fact, she is known to weigh her words before voicing them. Her vigilant personality has always been a part of her persona. However, after working in the industry for almost a decade now and being the centre of numerous uncalled for controversies, Khan feels it’s high time she came out of her shell.

I sat with her ahead of the release of her then upcoming film, Superstar. During our conversation, Khan divulged details on why she decided to address the Firdous Jamal controversy that made headlines, a little over a month ago.

“I thought it was time,” she told The Express Tribune. “I have never made public statements about any controversy or fake news I’ve been made a part of. I’ve never addressed it, it’s just something I don’t do.

My personal life is nobody’s business,” Khan added. “You can write about it, talk about it, do whatever you want about it. But I’m never going to talk about it because it’s mine. The day I wish to speak about it, I will.”

So, why did she decide to speak about the much-discussed Firdous Jamal controversy? “I think it just happened. I think the support overwhelmed me. There were fans and my industry colleagues who stood so strongly for me, that I felt I owed it to them to say something about it,” stated the Raees actor. “And this has happened before as well. However, this time it was on a professional level.”

Khan is aware of the fact that this is not the first time someone from within the industry has taken a dig at her or her career. “Even now, I thought it wasn’t something serious. But when people come out in support of you – people who aren’t your friends – who are just your peers, or your contemporaries – I just wanted to do it,” she continued. “I just never discussed anything before I held my ink pen and found myself a paper and I just wrote and wrote.”

There were three things Khan wanted to highlight in her letter. Firstly, she wanted to thank everyone who came out in her support. Secondly, she unapologetically wanted to say that she will do as she pleases and what she thinks is right. Thirdly, she wanted to urge people to stop picking on each other.

“We need to stop it. Enough!” Khan mentioned. “Every time I open my Instagram, I see one actor taking a dig at another. Why not focus on our work instead of just pulling each other down? Why call someone out on national television or publicly? Why is that even necessary?” The Verna star then added she wanted to pen her thoughts down because she wanted the note to stay with her forever. And, with her fans too.

“Twenty years down the line, I want this one letter to stay with me. I want my kid to see this. And if someone wants to see this and can relate to it on some level, I hope they find it,” she went on. As we wrapped up the interview and she dispersed into the crowd, that had been anxiously awaiting to catch a glimpse of her, I saw a new Mahira Khan. The fierce and unapologetic one. She has finally arrived.

Superstar Extended Week One Boxoffice Collections Pakistan

Mahira Khan and Bilal Ashraf starrer Superstar has roped in massive numbers during its 11 days extended week. However the film had the push of Eid that drew in huge footfalls during its first 4 days. But the film couldn’t show pick over the period of Friday to Sunday followed by huge fall over the weekdays.

So far the film has raked a whooping total of PKR 150 million as per estimates at Pakistani box office in extended first week of eleven days. The huge influx of Eid footfalls in first four days had indicated that the seven days extended weekend alone should have gone around PKR 150 million but here 11 days business has reached that mark.

Furthermore, trending on weekdays was way below the mark as weekdays have contributed around PKR 18 million which is a very low number. Last year Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 had done 18 million on the first weekday alone. The film has big budgets involved and it will need to show ample growth on second Friday followed by hefty growth on Saturday and Sunday to get back in the game.

Nevertheless, Superstar has already become the second highest grosser of Mahira Khan in just eleven days. With the on going trend the film will become the highest grosser for the star during coming weekend.

Hamza Ali Abbasi taught Mahira Khan Punjabi for The Legend Of Maula Jatt

Mahira Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi share a fabulous friendship amongst all other celebs in the industry. The two have friends for a long time and although we have not seen them in a play or a movie together yet, the duo do look amazing together as seen in award shows as well as photo shoots which they have done together.

Hamza Ali Abbasi and Mahira are now starring together in The Legend of Maula Jatt but sadly they are not paired opposite one another. However, despite the reason, the much loved actress was all praise for her best friend who made sure she aced the character. As Mukho, Mahira had to speak Punjabi fluently and Hamza made sure she did so, helping her nail the accent.

Talking to Instep recently, Mahira who is Urdu speaking and has studied abroad as well, was not at all familiar with the language of Punjab as she said,

“It’s like a French girl speaking Punjabi, I used to go there and say I’m doing a foreign-language film. I have to say I was very nervous and I told Hamza I couldn’t do it, but he convinced me by promising to tutor me."

Adding further she said, "And he lived up to that, he would come on Verna’s set and sit with me for hours, and so we prepared this one, long scene, which was also my first and everybody was expecting I’d mess up, but the first take went amazing. And I got all over-confident after that, so I never sat down with him again, but Hamza really kept at it. He’d come to the sets of Maula, even when he didn’t have scenes."

With Mahira having enjoyed playing Makho tremendously as she called her character cute but a bad ass, we cant wait to see both Mahira and Hamza shine bright once The Legend of Maula Jatt releases on Eid ul Fitr this year.
